The Production Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a compounding extrusion line. The job involves handling of dry and liquid chemicals to produce a thermoplastic compounded pellet which could be used to injection mold or extrude automotive parts, appliances, and plastic pipe. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform cleaning and simple maintenance procedures on extrusion equipment. Interpret job packet instructions in order to setup the correct augers, adapters, dies, and packaging materials. Identify the correct raw materials from the job packet (ie. plastic resins, color concentrates, flame retardants, etc.) Load raw materials into feed augers and perform rate calibration. Startup extrusion line and maintain all settings within tolerance (temperatures, pressures, RPMs, rates, etc.) Monitor and adjust extruder settings to meet quality requirements (Troubleshooting) Identify the correct packaging from the job packet (boxes, drums, bags) Package and label finished products for shipment Document time and quality checks on forms provided in the job packet Clean and maintain work area daily. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications. Must have mathematical skill to add, subtract, multiply and divide and the ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance. Must be able to effectively communicate in English one-on-one and in small group situations. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, scales, spatula, barrel cart, hand trucks, fork lift, utility knife, and mixer/blender machinery and computer equipment. Good Troubleshooting Skills - Mechanical and Computer Hands-on Mechanical Ability Outgoing/Ambitious Able to work effectively in a team environment Safety and Quality conscious Required Length & Type of Experience: 3 years of directly applicable plastics compounding experience. Required Certification, Licenses, Registration: May require obtainment of a Fork Lift Operator's License.
